"Pineapple Huaymun" is a Smooth Cayenne (1) pineapple that is sweeter and more delicious than general varieties of Smooth Cayenne pineapple produced in other areas of Thailand.
The characteristics of Pineapple Huaymun produced in this area are derived from the fact that production is carried out repeatedly using seedlings that have been separated from pineapples grown in the same area.
The variety and cultivation method for Pineapple Huaymun entails using seedlings obtained by separating from locally grown Pineapple Huaymun (Smooth Cayenne variety).
The shipping standard is a sugar content of at least 12°Bx.
The producing area is hilly with scattered small hills. The mild climate, with a mean temperature of 27°C, and the well-drained soil, containing sediments and sand washed down from higher lands are suitable for pineapple production.
The area has a successful history of raising pineapples with high sugar content achieved by using only plants that originated from Smooth Cayenne pineapple brought into the producing area in the 1970s and continuing dividing and cultivating their ratoons (suckers).
All producers in the producing area worked in unison on production control, limiting production to that using plantlets in the area. As a result, "Pineapple Huaymun" has gained recognition in Thailand as a sweet pineapple and has often been introduced in Thai media.
Today, the pineapple is traded for 20% to 50% higher than general pineapples of the same variety.
- Smooth Cayenne is an ordinary pineapple produced worldwide. The skin is yellowish orange. It is easy to cultivate and highly productive. The fruit grows to about 1 to 1.5kg.
